Mafia: Chapter 1, known simply as Mafia, was an intense action-crime film written and directed by Karthick Naren. The film starred Arun Vijay and Priya Bhavani Shankar in leading roles with Prasanna playing the film's antagonist. It was released back on 21 February 2020 and opened to mixed reviews from both the audiences and critics alike but was overall a sleeper hit.

The film was initially planned to be a two-part film and following the reception of the first film, the sequel of the action thriller film Mafia is in the talk and will reportedly start rolling soon. Recently, actor Arun Vijay shared a photo from a certain Mafia photoshoot on his Instagram and attached a caption to it which read, “One of my favorite photoshoot with @venketramg for #Mafia !!💪🏽 #Aryan vs #Dexter 💥 @karthicknaren_m ???? #Mafia2”. The actor also tagged director Karthick Naren on the post asking him for an update on the sequel of the film.

Responding to the post, director Karthick Naren replied, "Viraivil bro", which translates to 'Soon bro'. Earlier, actor Arun Vijay on his official Twitter handle stated that the second part of the film is in the discussion. There has been no other confirmation regarding the film's plot, cast and crew members of the movie, etc. but some of the old cast is expected to come back. With so little detail revealed, it is highly expected that more information regarding the film Mafia 2 will be out soon.

Director Karthick Narren is currently working on his film Nirangal Moondru at the moment which wrapped up its shooting last month. The film is currently in its post-production phase and is speculated that the director will begin work on Mafia 2 sometime later this year after the release of Nirangal Moondru this year.

Director Karthick Naren, who made a splash in Tamil cinema with his debut film, Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, in 2016, is currently working on the tentatively titled D43, starring Dhanush in the lead role. Being produced by the prestigious Sathya Jyothi Films banner, the upcoming film has been described to be a new-age thriller, with Petta and Master heroine Malavika Menon cast as the female lead alongside Mookuthi Amman fame Smruthi Venkat and will also feature music by G. V. Prakash Kumar. As the excitement for D43 continues to soar, Karthick Naren on Friday took part in a Q&A session with fans on his Instagram page. 

Prior to D43, Karthick Naren had made the crime thriller, Mafia: Chapter 1, which came out early last year and garnered mixed reviews from fans and critics. Mafia starring Arun Vijay in dual roles had Prasanna playing the antagonist, followed by Priya Bhavani Shankar as the female lead and had been produced by Lyca Productions. Expectations were quite high leading up to the release of Mafia, but failed to make a big impression, leaving both fans and critics divided. Karthick Naren, who took part in a Q&A with fans, was asked by one social media user about his thoughts to Mafia's response to which he responded with a funny meme of superstar comedian 'Vaigai Puyal' Vadivelu's famous 'Thambi, tea innum varala' comedy scene from 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Pokkiri. 

In the scene in Pokkiri, we see Vadivelu informing Sriman, Vayapuri and Karate Raja that he's speaking on the phone after interrupting their plans, leading to the trio beating him up. Eventually, we see Vadivelu telling that none of them should be present next to him and also that they should be careful, which he immediately retracts saying he was speaking to himself. Karthick Naren, who although did not directly say that he feels letdown by the response to Mafia, has rather responded on a humorous note. Apart from the upcoming D43, Karthick Naren also has the long-delayed, Naragasooran, starring Arvind Swami, Shriya Saran, Sundeep Kishan, Aathmika and Indrajith Sukumaran in the lead roles and was billed as the the second film in the young director's "thriller trilogy" after Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru. Prasanna was last seen in Mafia: Chapter 1 in which he played the role of DK (Diwakar), a super stylish antagonist and he aced the character with class and conviction. His performance received good reviews and a certain section of people even felt that he could have been utilized even more. The film, which featured Arun Vijay as the protagonist, was directed by Karthick Naren and produced by Lyca Productions. Up next, he would be seen playing one of the leads in Vishal's Thupparivaalan 2, which will mark the directorial debut of Vishal. The shooting of the film is expected to resume in London after the pandemic when everyone is declared safe.

Meanwhile, it looks like Prasanna has already completed shooting for a project amidst the lockdown. Yes! Prasanna has teamed up with director Barath Neelakantan, who made an impressive debut with the Arulnithi starrer K-13, for a new project. This is said to be a short film for AHA OTT platform which is slowly gaining popularity among the South Indian audience. The shooting of this short film has been wrapped up and director Barath Neelakantan took to his social media page to share his excitement about the collaboration.

Posting a selfie picture with Prasanna, Barath Neelakantan wrote, "Glad to have worked twice with @Prasanna_actor, one of the best actors in Tamil cinema! This time I get to Direct him! More details coming soon #ArhaMedia #SNDSDreamcatchers @ahavideoIN @DC_SNDS @N_sujatha08". Prasanna replied to Barath's tweet by saying, "Thanks for the kind words Bharath. loved working with you again and the whole team". As Barath says, we will have to wait for a few more weeks to know more about this OTT project for AHA platform.

For the uninformed, AHA is an OTT platform exclusively for Telugu movies and this streaming platform is owned by veteran producer Allu Aravind and his son Allu Arjun, who is a Superstar in Tollywood. AHA is streaming some of the recently acclaimed Telugu films including Krishna And His Leela and Bhanumathi & Ramakrishna. The Telugu dubbed versions of notable Tamil and Malayalam films like NGK, Kaithi, 36 Vayadhinile, Hero, Trance, Forensic are also streaming on the said platform.

Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru fame director Karthick Naren’s next film, Mafia, is scheduled to hit the screens, this Friday, on February 21. However, a section of media had reported that the film might not release as planned due to the loss incurred by the distributors in Lyca’s previous release, Darbar, starring Superstar Rajinikanth and Nayanthara. We checked with our sources close to the team of Mafia and got a better clarity on the issue.

We are informed that the discussion is right now happening between Lyca and the distributors at the Film Chambers office in Chennai and it is said that an amicable solution will be arrived by the end of the meeting. From what we hear, the problems will be solved as soon as possible and the advance bookings for the film will open within the next few hours.

We can expect a positive announcement about the release of Mafia soon and stay tuned to this space for that. This stylish action thriller features Arun Vijay, Prasanna and Priya Bhavanishankar in the lead roles and has music scored by Jakes Bejoy. Arun Vijay will be seen as a Narcotics Officer, who will be locking horns with DK (played by Prasanna), an entrepreneur.

Arun Vijay and Prasanna would be locking horns against each other for the first time through the Karthick Naren directed crime thriller Mafia. This film which is bankrolled by Lyca Productions, is scheduled to hit the screens on February 21. Mafia is expected to put up a good show at the box office as the teaser and trailer have lived up to the expectations. The makers have now released a promo of the film’s first single which is called ‘Vedan Vandhaacho’. The visuals of this song features Arun Vijay and it acts as a visual narrative that explains the character of the protagonist.

The visuals look stylish, due credits to cinematographer Gokul Benoy. The full song will be released along with the video on February 7 at 6 PM in the evening. This song has been composed by Jakes Bejoy of Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru fame, while lyricist Vivek has penned the lines. Arun Vijay will be seen as a Narcotics Officer, while Prasanna will be playing the role of DK, an entrepreneur.

Director Karthick Naren left Tamil cinema fans stunned with his directorial debut, Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, released in 2016 when the young filmmaker was only 23 years in age. Now, Lyca Productions has officially announced that Mafia will be hitting screens on February 21 and will be coming alongside Prabhu Deva's action cop drama, Pon Manickavel.

The story is set in the background of Chennai and is a high-octane gangster film. Some days back it was reported that the team is in Thailand shooting the last leg of the film. Now, it has been announced that the film has been wrapped up! That sure was fast!

While Priya Bhavani had completed her portions of the shoot sometime back, now the whole film’s shoot has been wrapped up. This means that the makers may find a release date soon enough! The director took to Twitter and unveiled a new poster along with the news that the shoot has been wrapped. He also wrote that these have been the happiest days in a very long time.

It is also being reported that the teaser of Mafia will be out with Suriya’s Kaappaan in theatres from September 20. Since Lyca Productions is bankrolling both the films, it may be the reason why the teaser of Mafia is being released with Suriya’s Kaappaan.
