Bollywood’s next generation of young stars will be making their respective debuts in Netflix’s The Archies. The Archies is directed and produced by Zoya Akhtar (Gully Boy) and her longtime collaborator Reema Kagti under their production house Tiger Baby and Sharad Devarajan for Graphic India. It is written by Zoya, Reema and Ayesha DeVitre (Kapoor & Sons). The musical drama film is to be set in the 1960s, and as per Netflix, the film is, "A musical experience bursting with youth, rebellion, friendships, first loves and everything young adult, it still promises to have something for every generation. The film has the iconic gang of The Archies’ at the center of it, and perfectly matches the youthful energy, hope and excitement of the sixties era.”
Earlier today (May 14) the first look from The Archies dropped and has been trending ever since. Zoya confirmed the film's cast which includes young actors Dot., Mihir Ahuja, Yuvraj Menda and Vedang Raina, who will be joining Khushi Kapoor, the daughter of the late actor Sridevi and producer Boney Kapoor and sister of Janhvi Kapoor; superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan; and Agastya Nanda, the grandson of revered actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. These seven young actors will reprise characters from the iconic Archie Comics. The announcement was made today with a quirky video with its music composed by Ankur Tewari (Yeh Ballet) and the Islanders.
The film's first look is very eye-catching and refreshing with the actors and actresses seeming to be in sync with the era and one another. Speaking about the project, Zoya Akhtar had previously stated, “I am super excited to have the chance to bring The Archies to life. It was a large part of my childhood and teenage years. The characters are iconic and globally loved, which is also why I am a little nervous."
