Leading Tamil actor Vishal is set to appear next on the big screen in Rathnam releasing in theatres worldwide on April 26 as a grand summer treat. The upcoming film is the third collaboration for the Mark Antony (2023) star with blockbuster filmmaker Hari after their box office hits Thamirabharani (2007) and Poojai (2014), and has created a tremendous buzz among audiences, with hopes for the duo to make it a hat-trick next. With promotions for Rathnam underway ahead of its release in the days ahead, Vishal sat down for an exclusive interview with Galatta to talk about the film, while also addressing the trolling he's faced in recent times over how he offers his prayers.
Addressing the topic about the manner in which he prays, Vishal said, "It's not about enjoyment. I'm making them do the same. Have they prayed to Allah or Jesus? I'm making them do that. Everyone will think I'm pulling a stunt. I don't need to stoop that low to use caste or religion. We're not so cheap." He added, "I was once doing workout in a ground near a restaurant like this. On my way back after the workout, I saw a girl imitating doing the same. I told her that it's good and gestured her to the top, and left the place. You should not get angry for that. They take it in a different perspective. At the end of the day, what I feel is, I make them do at least that. Otherwise, when have they done that? Praying to Allah or Jesus. You should accept it as it is." Vishal was trolled first before having his food on the sets of Rathnam on the occasion of MGR's birth anniversary where he followed his own style of worshipping three religious gods.
Rathnam has Vishal paired with Priya Bhavani Shankar, while Samuthirakani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Yogi Babu, Murali Sharma, Hareesh Peradi, Muthu Kumar, among others are cast in key roles. The action film also marks the big Tamil cinema comeback for composer Devi Sri Prasad, who won the National Award for Best Music Direction for his work in Telugu superstar Allu Arjun's Pushpa: The Rise (2021).
