Blockbuster Tamil filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar is on cloud nine these days after the sensational box office success of his latest film, Jailer, starring 'Superstar' Rajinikanth. With the mass action entertainer continuing to see a strong showing in cinemas everywhere, the hit director recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Galatta to talk to acclaimed and National Award-winning Tamil actress Suhasini Maniratnam about Jailer, while also sharing his thoughts about how he approached 'Thalapathy' Vijay to do Beast and why he enjoyed working on the film the most.
Nelson stated, "Among the four films I have directed, I enjoyed working on Beast the most because I've been Vijay sir's fan for a long time since my college days. I've thought about him a lot since then and how our conversations would go, which was satisfied beyond my expectations in Beast. We would meet often and hang out. We won't talk about cinema, but rather in general. I'd message him sometimes and we would chat. These are good memories, which need to be protected."
Speaking about how he approached Vijay to do Beast, Nelson shared, "During Covid, the world was at a standstill and so was Doctor's release, which was put on hold. At the time, I had an idea to do something in parallel and spoke to Vijay sir's manager Jagadish, and requested a meeting. Two days later, he called me and as I was halfway through the story narration, we both felt a vibe between us and he agreed to do the film. This was confirmed before the release of Doctor. We had also completed half of the shooting on Beast by the time Doctor had released."
