Well-known singer Sonu Nigam was shoved and two of his colleagues were manhandled by a fan who clamored for selfies at a music festival where he performed at around 11 PM. The singer has filed an FIR at the Chembur Police station on Tuesday. The singer said he got to know that the son of local MLA Prakash Phaterkar, Swapnil Phaterkar, caused the incident that happened as he was climbing down the stage after performing. Speaking about the incident, Sonu Nigam said "I was shoved and fell on the steps and Rabbani Khan came to save me and was pushed from behind, he could have died". The police informed that the support staff then came forward and stopped the person. He clarified that he had filed the report as people must think before they force someone to take a selfie.
The police filed a case for wrongful restraint and voluntarily causing hurt. Sonu Nigam said in his statement to reporters that he came to know he was son of MLA when he asked about the boy. Khan was then taken to a private hospital as he was injured. Suprada Phaterpekar, an organise of the Chembur festival, said her team has apologized to Sonu Nigam and came clean saying it was her brother that tried taking selfie with the singer and asked people not to politicize the matter. A video of the incident was shared by the opposition of the MLA.
