The Malayalam film Manjummel Boys directed by Chidambaram S. Poduval of Jan. E. Man (2021) fame is taking the box office by storm in Kerala and Tamil Nadu and is witnessing a huge demand for tickets in cinemas. The survival thriller film has been receiving a huge feedback from Tamil audiences as it also features several references to 'Ulaganayagan' Kamal Haasan's cult classic Gunaa (1991). In that light, the Manjummel Boys team met Kamal Haasan earlier this week for a special interaction, with Gunaa's director Santhana Bharathi also seen at the celebrations.
Among the various Gunaa references in Manjummel Boys, the inclusion of the 'Kanmani Anbodu' song composed by 'Isaignani' Ilaiyaraaja and sung by Kamal Haasan has since garnered a massive response. Santhana Bharathi, in an exclusive interview with Galatta, has the Kanmani Anbodu song in Manjummel Boys by saying, "I was extremely happy and proud because they have brought to attention our work to the masses. The people are giving credit to the song for that film's success. Of course, they have done a lot of hard work, but the excitement for their film has gotten an elevation because of the song. But, that song was used in an apt manner in the film."
The story of Manjummel Boys revolves around a group of friends and their experiences in the Guna Caves originally referred to as Devil's Kitchen, which became popular after Gunaa. The Malayalam film starring Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathi S. Poduval, Lal Jr., Deepak Parambol, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Arun Kurian, Khalid Rahman, among others is en route to becoming a roaring box office success and the appreciation from Kamal Haasan and many leading Tamil cinema celebrities is doubt doing wonders.
