Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: 2 is continuing its box office rampage and is nearing a month since its theatrical release. Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman composed chart-topping hit songs and a powerful background score in the epic historical action-adventure film after the spectacular response to his phenomenal work in last year's Ponniyin Selvan: 1. With PS: 2 grossing more than 300 crores at the worldwide box office, the much-awaited 'Chinnanjiru' video song has now been officially released by audio label Tips Tamil.
Sung by Khatija Rahman to the lyrics penned by Ilango Krishnan', 'Chinnanjiru' in PS: 2 is picturized on 'Chiyaan' Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's characters Aditha Karikalan and Nandini, and gives audiences a glimpse into their fractured relationship. The video song shows visuals from Vikram's entry to the climactic moments where he sacrifices himself by throwing a dagger into Aishwarya Rai's hands and then forcing it into him. 'Chinnanjiru' was one of the biggest highlights in Ponniyin Selvan: 2 and is currently on the top of the charts alongside the other songs in the film like 'Aga Naga' and 'Veera Raja Veera'.
Based on legendary Tamil writer Kalki Krishnamurthy's Ponniyin Selvan books, Mani Ratnam's two-parter films have been stated by many to be important contributions to Tamil cinema in recent years, with the filmmaker too sometime back expressing his wish for more historical films to be made in the future. Apart from Vikram and Aishwarya Rai, Ponniyin Selvan: 2 produced by Lyca Productions in association with Madras Talkies also stars Karthi, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha in the lead roles, with Jayaram, Rahman, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Kishore, Prabhu, Radhakrishnan Parthiban, Vikram Prabhu among others making appearances.
