Brindha Sivakumar, daughter of veteran Tamil actor Sivakumar and the younger sister of actors Suriya and Karthi, has made a name for herself in Tamil cinema over the years as a singer. Hailing from one of the most reputed families in the Tamil film industry, the popular singer has now in an exclusive interview with Galatta opened up on how she began her singing career, while also revealing for the first time that she got an opportunity to act in celebrated Tamil filmmaker Mani Ratnam's iconic film, Kannathil Muthamittal (2002), which starred Madhavan and Simran in the lead roles and featured music composed by Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman.
Speaking to Galatta, Brindha goes on to explain how she was initially in consideration to play Simran's role in Mani Ratnam's Kannathil Muthamittal at the time. She stated, "I haven't said this anywhere before. Sudha Kongara akka had asked my family for Kannathil Muthamittal. I came to know about it later. So, when I recently met Maddy (Madhavan), I said to him, 'You know I was supposed to act with you in this movie.' I'd tease him and say, 'You missed it.' But, I was never interested in acting and always wanted to pursue singing." Regarding how she came to know about her name being discussed for acting in Kannathil Muthamittal, she said, "My family told me jokingly, 'They said there's a mother's role for you.' At the time since I wasn't yet married, they said they didn't take it forward for the mother role. I came to know only later that it was for Kannathil Muthamittal and with Maddy. Of course, Simran madam had performed in her role superbly and I'm a big fan of her."
