Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman recently performed the 'Ponni Nadhi' song from ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's epic historical magnum opus film, Ponniyin Selvan: I, in Houston, Texas, during his US tour. Based on legendary Tamil writer Kalki Krishnamurthy's acclaimed novel Ponniyin Selvan, the upcoming film's first single was released on July 31 to a rousing response and is yet another chart-buster for the ARR and Mani Ratnam collaboration. 'Ponni Nadhi', which was released after a grand launch in Chennai in the presence of the film's lead stars Karthi and Jayam Ravi along with celebrated Malayalam actor Jayaram, was also performed later in the day for the first time by A. R. Rahman during a live performance at a concert in Houston, Texas when he was touring the US. Up until now, no official visuals from the concert were released, until the leading audio label Tips Official on Saturday, August 13, finally presented the full performance of the Ponniyin Selvan: 1 song by the legendary music director.

A. R. Rahman is accompanied by A. R. Raihanah and Bamba Bakiya, followed by Jonita Gandhi, Rakshita Suresh, Ranjit Barot, Keba Jeremiah, Nilanjana, Hriday Gattani, Ashwin Srinivasan, and Nakul Abhyankar in the 'Ponni Nadhi' song live performance. Ponniyin Selvan: I, which is also being called PS: 1, will open in theatres on September 30 and is a pan-Indian venture coming out in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, and Kannada. With the film getting a nationwide release, the 'Ponni Nadhi' song penned by Ilango Krishnan in Tamil also came out in other languages and has since received phenomenal feedback from fans and music lovers everywhere.
Jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies banners, Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan is carrying massive hype, with the expectations shooting up after the film's intriguing and action-packed teaser was released sometime back. The film has a star-studded cast featuring the likes of 'Chiyaan' Vikram as Aditya Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyadevan, Trisha as Ilaiya Piratti Kundavai, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini forming the core cast.
