TN COVID-19 Status: 26 out of 37 districts in Red Zone!
The Central Government of India had instituted a nation-wide lockdown from March 25th to April 14th but with there being no reduction in the spread of the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic, the lockdown was extended. The second phase of the lockdown, which has been in effect from April 15th, will be ending in a couple of days on May 3rd! However, the state of Tamil Nadu seems to be left in a confusion as to how to proceed. There are 37 districts in Tamil Nadu and the Central Government has deemed only 12 of these districts as being in the Red Zone, while the State Government has marked 26 of them as being in the Red Zone.
The Zone classifications of the State mention that Red Zones are places which have more than 15 active COVID-19 cases or where the doubling time is less than 4 days, while Orange Zones are places which have less than 15 active COVID cases or no new cases in the past 14 days and Green Zones are places where there have been no new COVID cases in the past 28 days. The only Green Zone district in Tamil Nadu is Krishnagiri, while Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Dharmapuri, Nilgiris, Perambalur, Erode, Ariyalur, Kanyakumari, Pudukottai and Sivagangai are in the Orange Zone. The districts marked as being under the Red Zone are Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Chengalpattu, Tirupathur, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Trichy, Cuddalore, Tanjore, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Karur, Virudhunagar, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Madurai, Villupuram, Tirunelveli and Namakkal.
