Jan 12 - TN COVID Update: 671 New Cases | 08 New Deaths | Total - 827,614 Cases & 12,236 Deaths

It is that time of the day when the official numbers of the COVID-19 cases are released and here we bring it for you along with a comprehensive round-up of all the details! The last 24 hours show that Tamil Nadu has had 671 new cases of COVID positive being reported, taking the overall total to 827,614! After over months together of continuously recording a high number of new cases each day since May, Tamil Nadu finally begun recording less than 1,000 cases in recent days. The good news is that the numbers are continuing to reduce steadily and Chennai's daily new cases tally has been steadily recording below 300 in these recent days and the numbers have gone below 200 today! 194 new cases have been identified in Chennai alone, taking the district's total to 228,169! Kancheepuram has recorded 20 new cases and the district has now registered a total of 28,990 and 199 of them are currently active! Chengalpattu has recorded 50,651 total cases of which 401 are currently active and Thiruvallur has recorded a total of 43,096 cases with 323 of them being currently active. Coimbatore alone has recorded 59 new cases in the last 24 hours, while Chengalpattu has recorded 42 cases and Tiruvallur has recorded 36 new cases!
There have been 08 new COVID related deaths in Tamil Nadu in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 12,236. As of now, Chennai is the district with the most number of COVID cases recorded so far, in the state and has 228,169 cases registered. The total number of active cases in entire Tamil Nadu, stands at 6,807 while the number of active cases in Chennai alone stands at 2,077! There have been 827 new recoveries and discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recovered people to 808,571. There have been 60,563 new samples tested, in the past 24 hours alone, taking the total tests to 14,945,576 tests, which is still the highest for any state in our country! 60,287 people have been tested in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of people tested so far, to 14,638,489! There are reports that the overall COVID cases is on a downward trend in India and that our country has gone past the peak of the infection.
