Aug 16 - TN COVID Update: 5950 New Cases | 125 New Deaths | Total - 338,055 Cases & 5766 Deaths

It is that time of the day when the official numbers of the COVID-19 cases are released and here we bring it for you along with a comprehensive round-up of all the details! The numbers have been steadily increasing over the past couple of days! The last 24 hours show that Tamil Nadu has had 5950 new cases of COVID positive being reported, taking the overall total to 338,055! Of these, 1196 new cases have been identified in Chennai alone, taking the district's total to 116,635! Kancheepuram has recorded 307 new cases and the district has now registered a total of 13900, while 2847 of them are currently active! Chengalpattu has recorded 20892 total cases of which 3032 are currently active and Madurai has recorded a total of 12772 cases with 1039 of them being currently active. Thiruvallur alone has recorded 488 new cases in the last 24 hours, while Chengalpattu registered 436 new cases and Coimbatore has recorded 395 new cases!
There have been 125 new COVID related deaths in Tamil Nadu in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 5766. The number of deaths per day has now crossed 100 for well over 10 days! As of now, Chennai is the district with the most number of COVID cases recorded so far, in the state and has 116,635 cases registered. The total number of active cases in entire Tamil Nadu, stands at 54,019 while the number of active cases in Chennai alone stands at 11,498! After a number of days of being lower than the number of new cases, the number of recoveries has again crossed it, even though it is just by a small margin! There have been 6019 new recoveries and discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recovered people to 278270. There have been 70,450 new samples tested, in the past 24 hours alone, taking the total tests to 3,711,246 tests, which is still the highest for any state in our country!
