Director Balaji Mohan has established himself in Tamil cinema as a talent powerhouse, which was evident with the smash successes of his Maari films with Dhanush in the lead role. Now, the hit director has announced his next film’s title, Mandela, which will see him debut as a Creative Producer for his Open Window production banner. Starring Yogi Babu in the lead role, Mandela also marks the directorial debut of Madonne Ashwin with the project jointly being produced by Y Not Studios, Reliance Entertainment and Wishberry Films, which will have music by Bharath Sankar, Vidhu Ayyana for cinematography, editing by Philomin Raj and art direction by Ramu Thangaraj with filming kicking off today.

Apart from the Maari films, Balaji Mohan debuted as a director with Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi, starring Siddharth and Amala Paul in 2012 and followed it up with the critically acclaimed, Vaayai Moodi Pesavum with Dulquer Salmaan and Nazriya Nazim in 2014. The film is also one among the many Yogi Babu is currently attached to which include Jayam Ravi's Comali, GV Prakash's 100% Kaadhal, Vijay's Bigil, Kathir's Jada, Rajinikanth's Darbar, Sivakarthikeyan's Hero and SK 16, Vishnu Vishal's Jagajaala Killadi, as well as starring as the lead in Zombie and Panni Kutty.
