Vijay Antony's Pichaikkaran 2 is gearing up for a huge release in theatres on May 19 and is an important film for the star as it marks his directorial debut. With promotions for the upcoming film underway, the composer-turned-actor sat down for an exclusive interview with National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the Editor-in-Chief of Galatta Plus, to talk about the action drama and the various interesting aspects about how it got to be made. Speaking about Pichaikkaran 2, Vijay Antony goes on to explain why he placed a shot in the film's trailer where he introduces a rich person, who goes on to die, and the reasons and logic behind it while addressing if it indeed is a spoiler. He stated, "In Pichaikkaran 1, there were a lot of emotions and scenes showing a son begging for his mother. If people go expecting similar emotions again, they will feel cheated. A sneak peek video is usually released a week before the film's release. We decided not to do that and instead release a scene explaining the brain transplant surgery to tune the people that it's a film on a different scale. After we released that, the people began to realize this is a different film."
Explaining the logic behind the cuts in the Pichaikkaran 2 trailer, Vijay Antony said, "Sometimes I don't know why I do that. Even during the composition of songs, I go to a zone where I don't know why and for what reason I'm doing it. In addition, I cut the trailer in such a manner that you won't understand. The story is completely different. You won't be able to understand the story. The biggest revelation is probably that the character is India's seventh richest person and I included it consciously because it's in the film on a minor level. We mention it on three occasions in the film. When we include that in the trailer, [the audience] will sustain the mood. There's also the brother-sister sentiment and I released a song about it. We didn't release a lyric video and instead went for the original song video because those kids appear for a short duration." He added, "In order to get registered in the minds of the audiences, I released it much earlier. So, the elements that are less in the film, I decided to release them much before. To me, all this appears very small and ordinary since I've been writing the story and developing it. But, since the people are coming for a short time, those characters need to be in their minds so that the film will connect with them on a bigger scale and that is why I included elements that have lesser space in the Pichaikkaran 2 trailer." He further went on to assert that the scene in the film's trailer is not a spoiler.
