Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan's Naanum Rowdy Dhaan starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara with chart-topping music composed by Anirudh Ravichander released in 2015 went on to become a blockbuster and continues to be a memorable film for Tamil cinema fans. During a conversation in Galatta Media's new candid interview series, 'Game Changers', being hosted by National Award-winning Tamil actress Suhasini Maniratnam, Vignesh Shivan opened up on how Nayanthara came on board Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, while also narrating a hilarious incident about getting served green tea during the story narration.
Speaking about how Nayanthara joined Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, Vignesh Shivan said, "Sir (Dhanush) asked me whom I want to narrate the story to and I said there will be a strong role for the heroine. I requested him to suggest a name and he asked me if I will do a narration for Nayanthara. I thought I could go and see Nayanthara for one and a half hours (laughs) since I initially thought there was no chance that she will do the film. At the time, I had Nazriya in mind. If anyone listens to the story narration for one and a half hours, they'll be able to understand since the heroes were already a little wary about the story. So, when he told me if I'll go see her (Nayanthara), I agreed and took an auto with my co-director Senthil. While en route, I told him, 'Senthil, you wait in the lobby. I'll sit next to Nayanthara and narrate the story for one and a half hours. Either way, she will say no to the film. So, I'll just go see her and come back. You wait downstairs.' And, I went and saw her, narrated the story for one and a half hours."
Narrating a hilarious incident during the Naanum Rowdy Dhaan story narration to Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan said, "She gave me some green tea, which I don't like. I told her then not to serve green tea at any point even to her enemy because I didn't know what else to say. It wasn't my cup of tea, but since she served me, it felt like honey (pun intended). I didn't drink it fully and acted in front of her as if I had it. I soon shifted course to the story narration."
