It's official - National Award-winning Tamil filmmaker Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai: Parts 1 & 2 will be getting a grand premiere at the 53rd International Film Festival Rotterdam under the limelight category and is scheduled to take place between January 25-February 4, 2024, in the Netherlands. Soori, who plays the lead role, shared a poster on social media announcing the big news of the films being selected for the prestigious Rotterdam Film Festival. This latest announcement also confirms that the second installment will be getting a grand premiere before its theatrical release next year.
The buzz surrounding Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai: Part 2 has been massive ever since Viduthalai: Part 1 (2022) ended on a cliffhanger note showing Vijay Sethupathi, who plays the head of a revolutionary outfit being caught by Soori, a constable and police authorities. This latest announcement about both Vetri Maaran films adapted from acclaimed Tamil writer Jeyamohan's short story 'Thunaivan' will come as a big delight to Tamil cinema fans, who will now be looking forward to the theatrical release date being revealed soon. Vetri Maaran's Viduthalai: Part 2 will see Soori and Vijay Sethupathi reprising their roles alongside Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Ilavarasu, Tamizh, Chetan, Munnar Ramesh, Saravana Subbiah, Balaji Sakthivel, Pavel Navageethan, Sardar Sathya, Manimegalai, Bala Hassan, S. Chandran, among others, who are appearing in pivotal roles. The upcoming film will pick up from the events of Viduthalai: Part 1 and reportedly includes several new big names in the star cast starting with Manju Warrier and Prakash Raj, who are reuniting with Vetri Maaran after Asuran (2019), while Vijay Sethupathi's son Surya Vijay Sethupathi is also said to be cast in a crucial role. Viduthalai: Part 2 will once again include music by 'Isaignani' Ilaiyaraaja, whose songs and background score in Viduthalai: Part 1 turned out to be major highlights, and fans will no doubt be looking forward to the legendary Tamil composer's magical touch once again.
