It was only a while back when filmmaker turned actor Ameer announced his return to direction after a nine-year hiatus in the upcoming film titled Iraivan Miga Periyavan, which has National Award-winning director Vetri Maaran writing the dialogues and the screenplay. Now, the duo are teaming up once again for a web series titled Nilamellam Ratham produced by Vetri Maaran, with Ameer in the lead role under the direction of Ramesh Balakrishnan of Adhu and Pagaivan fame. Revealed to premiere on OTT, Nilamellam Ratham was announced on Tuesday during the promotional event of ZEE5's 'Oru Awesome Thodakkam'.

Speaking at the event, Ameer stated that Nilamellam Ratham was a "raw and brutal" show. He said, "Our venture isn't a soft one nor is it meant for the weak-hearted." Ameer continued, "Considering we don't have restrictions like the business or the complications involved in a theatrical release, Nilamellam Ratham will be as close to reality as can be." Furthermore, it was announced that blockbuster music director Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing the score for the web series, which still doesn't have a premiere date and is expected to be announced by the streaming platform sometime soon.
As for Vetri Maaran and Ameer's Iraivan Miga Periyavan, the upcoming film also featuring music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is being produced by Jaffer's JSM Pictures banner. Furthermore, Ameer is the only person to be revealed to be cast in Suriya's upcoming film, Vaadivaasal, being directed by Vetri Maaran under iconic Tamil film producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu's V Creations banner. Recently, Vetri Maaran, Suriya, and Kalaipuli Thanu had taken part in a test shoot for Vaadivaasal, with hundreds of extras and junior artistes also participating amidst a jallikattu backdrop. Both Vetri Maaran and Ameer share an excellent rapport after the former cast the latter in a pivotal role in the smash hit 2018 gangster crime thriller, Vada Chennai, starring Dhanush in the lead role.
