US report suggests Indians better protected against COVID-19 due to Namaste!
The COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic has been ravaging almost all countries across the world and some places like the USA, UK and quite a few European countries have been very badly hit! Scientists the world over are trying hard to identify a cure or a vaccine for this deadly Virus and studies are being undertaken at almost all places of research, to combat this pandemic. Meanwhile, a media house in the USA has undertaken a study and released a comprehensive report of how some places are more affected than others, by this COVID outbreak! The report suggests that generic social distancing practices like using the Namaste as a way of greeting in India and bowing in Japan and South Korea, might have been some important reasons for the Virus not affecting these places, very badly!
This report from the New York Times, titled "The Covid-19 Riddle: Why Does the Virus Wallop Some Places and Spare Others?" has extensively covered the various social, cultural, demographic and environmental differences in various countries and how they could have contributed to the spread or control of the Virus. Epidemiologists have stated that the cultural habits might have played a major role in places like Delhi, Lagos, Baghdad & Bangkok not having high numbers of COVID infected people, despite having huge populations! The traditional Indian method of greeting people by bringing together the two palms in a Namaste, is said to be a very healthy way of social distancing during all times. Some places like South Korea and Japan have the practice of using face masks, as soon as it is identified that somebody is not well. This is also considered to be a very healthy practice.
