Dhanush’s Maari released in 2015 went on to become one of the biggest hits in the National Award-winning actor’s career.
Fast forward three years later, a sequel is underway now under the title Maari 2 with Balaji Mohan’s direction and Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films banner producing it.
Although it was initially believed Maari 2 would hit screens in May, that looks least likely now considering Dhanush’s other mega project, Vada Chennai, was confirmed earlier this week for a Ramzan release in June.
Composer Yuvan Shankar Raja is joining hands with Dhanush after a gap of nearly a decade since their last film, Yaaradi Nee Mohini.
Maari 2 has quite a lot going its way already with a rock solid cast starting with Sai Pallavi as the female lead.

Varalaxmi Sararthkumar too has been cast in a prominent role reportedly as a district collector with many saying her character will have plenty of negative shades.
Krishna Kulasekaran too has been cast in a vital supporting role in Maari 2.
A surprise addition to the cast was Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas as the prime antagonist.
Meanwhile, Tovino Thomas recently revealed he grabbed the role in Maari 2 despite having reservations initially. He states the script eventually bowled him over and he lapped up the opportunity.
Furthermore, Tovino during an exclusive interview with Galatta went on to say how he was happy to share screen space with Dhanush, who went on to bag the National Award For Best Actor at the young age of 26.
It must be noted Tovino is also part of the upcoming bilingual, Abhiyum Anuvum alonsgide Pia Bajpai.
