Tom Cruise as the globe-trotting spy Ethan Hunt will be seen once again in death-defying action in the seventh installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, with the Hollywood superstar revealing the film's title officially as Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Despite Cruise not being in attendance and appearing in a pre-recorded video, the upcoming Paramount Pictures tentpole film was a part of the Thursday presentation at CinemaCon. Attendees at the event got to witness a sneak peek of the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One teaser trailer, which has been announced to be releasing in theatres for general audiences on May 27 in front of Cruise's Top Gun: Maverick.
In the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One sneak peek trailer, Cruise as Hunt has been described to be once again facing a threat on a global scale. Christopher McQuarrie has returned to direct the seventh installment after navigating the franchise’s fifth and sixth installments - Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission Impossible: Fallout (2018), with the latter going on to become the highest-grossing film in the long-running franchise, and had grossed nearly $800 million at the worldwide box office. Collectively, the Mission: Impossible franchise has grossed over $3.5 billion at the global box office after the franchise kicked off in 1996.
Tom Cruise will be seen joining MI regulars Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Henry Czerny, and Frederick Schmidt alongside new cast members Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, Indira Varma, Cary Elwes, and Mark Gatiss. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is set to open in theatres on July 14, 2023 after several delays during the pandemic, while Mission Impossible 8 is scheduled for a release on June 28, 2024.
