The Kerala Story is an upcoming Hindi language film that is set to release across India. It is directed by Sudipto Sen who has made films like Aasma, The last Monk, Lucknow Times, etc. The film, which features actresses Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani and Siddhi Idnani, has sparked a controversy. The trailer of the film shows that the film is based on true incidents and shows four girls who are being lured and converted into Islam. It is said that the girls have then been recruited by the Islamic State of Iraq (ISIS). The film is scheduled to release in theatres on May 5.
Following the release of the trailer of The Kerala Story, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court requesting a ban on the release of the film or an issuance of a disclaimer that the movie was based on fictional accounts. The court dismissed the case saying the High Court will take a call on such matters. In Tamil Nadu, an intelligence report was submitted to the government regarding the controversy. News reports said the intelligence wing alerted the government of a possibility of law and order issues. The Tamil Nadu government decided not to ban the film but will remain on high alert, stated reports.
The Kerala Story is set to be released in theatres this weekend in four languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. It is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah under the banner Sunshine Pictures which has produced films like Cammando 1, 2 and 3, Sanak, A.R. Murgadoss’s Holiday, etc, heis also the creative director of the film. It also has music was composed by Viresh Sreevalsa and Bishakh Jyoti. A petition was also filed in the Kerala High Court seeking a stay on the release of the film. A Petition has also been filed in the Madras high court and is to be heard today.
