'Thalapathy' Vijay's The Greatest Of All Time is nearing its final stages in production and will be launched in theatres around the world on September 5. The upcoming film being directed by hit Tamil filmmaker Venkat Prabhu and featuring music by Yuvan Shankar Raja had its first single "Whistle Podu" released earlier this week to a phenomenal response, with lyricist Madhan Karky giving an explanation for the "party" reference in the lyrics. Considering Vijay had announced his entry into politics earlier this year with his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party, there has been quite a lot of debate surrounding whether Madhan Karky included it as a political reference in The Greatest Of All Time song.
Speaking about the "party" reference in the "Whistle Podu" song in The Greatest Of All Time, Madhan Karky said, "This was definitely my idea completely. Venkat Prabhu sent the tune and asked me to write lyrics saying he wanted a party song that is a dance number. He explained the song's situation about four friends dancing together. The lyrics are about them all singing together and from the hero's point of view. So, the meaning of the lines 'party onnu thodangattuma?' can be about a house party, a game party, a political party, a dance party, and it can be any party. So, it's very abstract."
Upon being asked whether he knew Vijay was initially going to sing "Whistle Podu" in The Greatest Of All Time, Madhan Karky said, "No, I didn't. I wrote the sing thinking it would be nice if Vijay sir sang the song. The reason I included the 'mic' line was because I felt it would be nice if Vijay sir sang it." He added, "When he sings 'mic-ah kaiyil edukattuma?', I wrote the lyrics with the meaning, 'Shall I sing?' But, I didn't know whether he would sing. I came to know that he sang the song only during its poster release."
