'Chiyaan' Vikram's highly-anticipated Thangalaan directed by Pa. Ranjith has been announced to open in cinemas this April. The upcoming period action drama set amidst the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) backdrop during the pre-Independence era includes intense action sequences filmed on a grand scale, and popular stunt choreographer Stunner Sam in an interview with Galatta has now opened up on the various challenges the cast and the crew had encountered during production.
Upon being queried about the safety measures implemented by the Thangalaan team at the shooting spot, Stunner Sam explained, "It was difficult to use beds during the shooting of the sequences in those locations. We used minimal safety measures. It was definitely a risk. But, there was no other way and the artistes had to perform. I too would ask sir (Vikram) whether he was okay with everything and he would request me to remove the small stones and rocks on the ground since there were sequences that required him to fall and roll around. Everyone sustained scratches on their bodies while filming those scenes."
Tamil cinema fans got to witness a glimpse of the action in Thangalaan awaiting them in theatres soon in a teaser and a making video showing Vikram and the supporting cast in some extreme sequences, which garnered a massive response on social media. The film will see Vikram sharing screen space with Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, and Harikrishnan among others in pivotal roles, with English actor Daniel Caltagirone cast as the antagonist, while National Award winner G. V. Prakash Kumar has composed the songs and is currently working on the background score. With Thangalaan announced to be launched into theatres in April, the wait is now on for the film's trailer, which is expected to reveal the release date.
