National Award winner 'Chiyaan' Vikram's Thangalaan will be a landmark film, popular Tamil film producer-distributor G. Dhananjeyan declared in an interview with Galatta. He further went on to speak about the leading Tamil actor's performance, while also revealing the release plans of the highly ambitious period action drama directed by acclaimed filmmaker Pa. Ranjith featuring music by National Award-winning composer G. V. Prakash Kumar. Dhananjeyan started off by saying, "I know the film's story quite well. I was given the story titled Thangam initially and I was extremely impressed while reading it. It made me think how such a wonderful story can be written. We all got excited watching RRR because it had a soul. It had a story about how a child gets taken away where one man puts up a fight to get her back, and another person comes to his support. It's a story that connects with us easily. Similarly, director Pa. Ranjith sir and writer Tamizh Prabha have written a beautiful story set amidst the backdrop of the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF). After reading the story, I told [producer] Gnanavel Raja sir that Thangalaan is going to be a landmark film for Studio Green. Such is the scope of the film's story."
Dhananjeyan then opened up on the performances in Thangalaan saying, "Ranjith sir and I discussed Vikram sir's hard work in his role and he said that his efforts for each and every aspect of a scene are huge as he would deliver what he would ask of him. He explained how there was a particular shot, which went for several takes. Despite going for more than 20 takes, he (Vikram) would come and ask him (Pa. Ranjith) with the same energy whether he'd want to go for another take. I can't explain the scene, but it was an arduous process. Even if Ranjith felt content, Vikram would request one more take for his satisfaction so that he could put in an extra amount of effort. Ranjith sir would say that Vikram was born to act. He would not compromise to bring to the fore the characteristics of the character and the role he's playing. Ranjith sir said that he's working to give a landmark film in Vikram's career. That's exactly what I too felt after watching the Thangalaan teaser."
Speaking about the release plans of Thangalaan, Dhananjeyan stated, "It will definitely be a landmark film and is coming out in January 2024. I'm not revealing the [release] date as it will be made known in the official announcement. All efforts are being taken to bring it out in January. Studio Green's complete focus at present is on Thangalaan's release. The film includes everything - performance, action, and music. I was stunned after listening to G. V. Prakash's music in the film's teaser as it's in international standards. This is a commercial film with international standards. You need not think that this is a film made for awards. An award is a recognition similar to what RRR achieved. The focus with Thangalaan, however, is to make it a big box-office hit."
