'Thalapathy' Vijay's Varisu also starring Rashmika Mandanna and directed by Vamshi Paidipally under Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations banner has taken a stellar start around the world. The family entertainer features a huge ensemble cast, including actor-politician Khushbu Sundar whose portions were cut from the theatrical version of the film, with National Award-winning editor Praveen K. L. now opening on the reason behind such a decision. Speaking to Galatta in an exclusive interview about the deleted scenes in Varisu, Praveen K. L. said, "First of all, I want to apologize to Khushbu madam and John Vijay sir. They performed extraordinarily. It was definitely a good episode on its own. Their (Khushbu and John Vijay) scenes were placed in the first half of the film. Since there was a challenge to bring the film under a controllable length, we had to choose between this and that. So, we chose Khushbu madam's episode, unfortunately. But, it was a lovely performance and was shot superbly well. There were a few stills of Khushbu madam with Vijay sir at the time that were ready. I think she was gracious enough to say, 'Do what is right for the film'. It's what I came to know from Vamshi sir, who said she had told him so. I should thank her for that."

Praveen K. L. explained, "You must have heard of the term extra fat. Similarly, if there's a scene that comes around 5 minutes and if the message gets conveyed in two and a half minutes, the other two and a half minutes is waste. And, only that would be gone. The tough decision was to take a subplot out because a lot of factors were involved in it like the amount of money spent, the artistes' effort, and the director and cinematographer would have put in a lot of hard work to shoot those sequences for 15-20 days." He further stated, "It is very easy for me to say as an editor that it is not working and keeping it aside, but the effort and that pain that they had to go through and the money spent will be stressful and give them pressure. But, eventually, when you make that call, you'll look at it as a bigger picture - whether it works for a film or it doesn't. The film is bigger than everyone else is what I believe." Regarding what that specific subplot is, Praveen K. L. said, "It revolves around Khushbu, but I can't tell you much about it because there are plans that they might have to attach it at some point or we may release it on YouTube. We are talking about it."
