Blockbuster Tamil filmmaker Venkat Prabhu has been interacting with 'Thalapathy' Vijay's fans on a consistent basis in regard to their tentatively titled Thalapathy 68. The director and the actor recently traveled to Los Angeles, California, to reportedly discuss with the team at USC Institute of Creative Technologies the use of 3D VFX scan technology in the upcoming film, which is currently in the pre-production stages. Meanwhile, an over-enthusiastic Vijay fan requested Venkat Prabhu for an update on Thalapathy 68 on Thursday evening, September 14, with the Maanaadu director responding with a one-word reply saying "Viraivil" (English translation: soon).

Venkat Prabhu's latest reply comes at a time when Vijay's Leo directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj is gearing up for a grand release in theatres worldwide on October 19. Whether the Thalapathy 68 launch will take place before the release of Leo and the flow of updates shall begin thereafter remains to be seen and fans will no doubt be waiting with bated breath for Vijay and Venkat Prabhu to kick off work on their film. The news of the duo's recent trip to the US to reportedly discuss the implementation of a technology called Light Stage that helps capture digital images and replicate a 3D version of the subject, which can then be used in tandem with motion capture technology, has gotten fans excited about the scope of Thalapathy 68.
Announced in May, Thalapathy 68 will feature songs and a background score composed by celebrated music director Yuvan Shankar Raja, who is boarding a Vijay-starrer two decades after their Pudhiya Geethai (2003). As of now, not much is known about the Vijay-starrer apart from Venkat Prabhu revealing sometime back that the film will not have any political theme, and all sights are set on what the filmmaker is cooking for the exciting venture.
