Legendary actress G. Jayachithra has been a popular name among Tamil cinema fans for more than 4 decades and starred alongside top names in the industry. Seen in films that had Tamil cinema doyens namely 'Puratchi Thalaivar' M.G. Ramachandram (MGR) and 'Nadigar Thilagam' Sivaji Ganesan, Jayachithra, who has also been conferred with the Kalaimamani Award, has made a name for herself as a director and producer as well. Jayachitra married industrialist Ganesh in 1983 and has a son Amrish Ganesh, who has also carved a niche for himself as a composer in the Tamil film industry. 

Having started her acting career as a child artiste, while also transitioning to playing the female lead and then taking up character actor roles, the Andhra Pradesh-based actress made her debut as a child artiste in KS Gopalakrishnan's Kurathi Magan and made made heads turn in the industry after starring in legendary filmmaker K. Balahcander's debut film Arangetram. Jayachithra, whose performance in the blockbuster Sathyaraj-Meena film Maaman Magal, has since acted in Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films, and was a leading name in South Indian cinema between the 1970s and the 1980s. 

Jayachithra had owned a house on Baskar Street at Kodambakkam in Chennai. Jayachitra, who had let out her house on rent, had been embroiled in a legal dispute for nearly 16 years against one Ilamurugan. In her petition to the Court, Jayachithra had stated that Ilamurugan had tried to take ownership of her house, which she for the first time revealed to the media in 2018. Jayachitra had been entangled in the legal dispute of her house for nearly 16 years against Ilamurugan and his wife and had stated that the two were not paying their rent during their stay in her house. In her petition, Jayachitra had requested the Court to vacate the two from her house premises and also help her in acquiring her property. In that light, the Court on February 1 delivered a judgment in Jayachitra's favor and ordered for recovery of her house with police protection.
