National Award-winning Tamil actor Suriya attended the Agaram Foundation 44th Award Ceremony on Sunday, July 16, along with his father Sivakumar, and brother Karthi and spoke about how their educational trust has played a significant role in shaping the lives of the people over the years. Speaking at the event, the leading Tamil actor-producer explained how the educational foundation was started on a small foundation 44 years ago by his grandmother and has sustained all the challenges while emphasizing how helping a person will lead to a butterfly effect among the people.
Suriya explained, "Everyone should have a social responsibility. When we help one person, it will have a butterfly effect causing a ripple effect leading to a positive turn of events for more people. We have the same social responsibility as everyone here. Since there's a dias here, we may appear to be playing a bigger role. But, even without climbing a stage, there are so many people who are helping others. And, that is why our society is still functioning beautifully and it's definitely the government, but also because of a lot of NGOs and volunteers, is what I would like to convey here. Many students who came here today have shared their journey, which is not an ordinary one. Their journey is more meaningful."
Narrating an incident told to him by one of the members at the Agaram Foundation, Suriya said, "Students at our educational trust come forward to help others. During one such instance, it was a daunting task to bring students near the Javadhu Hills in the Tiruvannamalai district to the school since it's a mountainous region and there aren't too many facilities available. At the time, the teachers stayed in those regions for 2-3 years and taught the students, brought them to schools, and inspired them. They adapted themselves to the lifestyle there contrary to the facilities of living in a city." He continued, "When we were speaking at one workshop, one young woman told us how she lived without any aim in life and said how she was living not knowing her purpose. She said that she was married and had a child too. She said that she too can live with a purpose and bring a change in a person by becoming a teacher. She told that she was made to realize and understand this by her husband, who is a student of Agaram Foundation. Since he's an Agaram student, she wanted to thank our foundation for changing her life. I was extremely happy to hear this because the HODs will request for Agaram Foundation's students to be a part of the college faculty stating that their willpower and zest are completely on a different plane altogether."
