The news of Jai Bhim not making it to the final five in the Oscars 2022 International Film Category will no doubt come as a big disappointment for Suriya’s fans. However, the remarkable journey of the film and its achievements since its release last year, is no doubt a memorable one and fans will be looking forward to what Suriya and his production banner 2D Entertainment have in store next.
A few weeks back, a scene from Jai Bhim was featured on the Oscars YouTube channel under the section 'Scene At The Academy' and has since made the film gain wider visibility from around the world. The Oscars YouTube channel's official description for the courtroom drama is as follows: "Jai Bhim weaves in real case studies helmed by Activist-Lawyer Chandru, who brought justice to indigenous tribes in Tamil Nadu through his relentless efforts. Writer-director TJ Gnanavel reveals how the story narrative was formed and executed."
Suriya's Jai Bhim skipped a theatrical release and premiered directly on the Amazon Prime Video platform on November 2. Directed by TJ Gnanavel and produced by Suriya and Jyotika under the 2D Entertainment banner, the film's story revolves around an Irular tribe woman's legal battle in 1993 led by Rtd. Justice Chandru, who fought for the people from the oppressed castes after they got framed for crimes they did not commit. Suriya portrayed the role of Chandru, with Malayalam actress and Sivappu Manjal Pachai fame Lijomol Jose as Sengani based on Parvathi ammal, whose life story served as the inspiration for Jai Bhim.
