Ponniyin Selvan: I is an epic period action drama film directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by Ratnam and Subaskaran Allirajah under the banners of Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. The films serves as the first of two cinematic parts based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel of the same name. It received critical acclaim from film critics, who praised the direction, performances of the cast, score, visuals, and faithfulness to the novel. 

The film was also revered for its amazing cinematography which was handled by Ravi Varman. It was so well shot and was deservingly praised for it by many. This also includes celebrity couple Suriya and Jyotika who showed their appreciation towards him by sending him a huge bouquet of flowers congratulating him on his amazing work. Varman took to his official Twitter handle to share and thank the couple for this act of kindness from them. Posting images of the bouquet, he wrote, "Thank you so much, @actorsuriya @jyotika ". Suriya and Jyotika also recently sent a bouquet to Trisha for her majestic performance in the film with her role of Kundavai, the Chola princess and daughter of Emperor Sundara Chola, sister of Adithya Karikalan and Arulmozhi Varman's and Vallavaraiyan's love interest. It can naturally be assumed that the couple would have sent similar bouquets of flowers to other cast members as well. 

Ponniyin Selvan: I boasts a stellar ensemble cast comprising stars including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, R. Parthiban and Lal. The music was composed by A. R. Rahman, editing by A. Sreekar Prasad, and production design by Thota Tharani. The second part of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus has been scheduled for a 2023 release.
