'Superstar' Rajinikanth received the Golden Ticket for World Cup 2023 from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on Tuesday, September 19. The big announcement was made by the governing body of cricket in India in a statement while praising the iconic Tamil actor for his charm and genius in cinema. The official X page of BCCI has posted a picture of Rajinikanth receiving the Golden Ticket for the 2023 Cricket World Cup from Jay Shah and wrote, "The Phenomenon Beyond Cinema! 🎬 The BCCI Honorary Secretary @JayShah presented the golden ticket to Shri @rajinikanth, the true embodiment of charisma and cinematic brilliance." (sic)
BCCI further stated, "The legendary actor has left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions, transcending language and culture. We are thrilled to announce that Thalaiva will grace the @ICC @cricketworldcup 2023 as our distinguished guest and will light up the biggest cricketing spectacle with his presence. 🌟 #GoldenTicket" (sic) Rajinikanth, an avid sports fan himself, previously made an appearance during the 2011 Cricket World Cup Final, which saw India lift the championship trophy under then-skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

On the cinema front, Rajinkanth recently tasted massive success with Jailer directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, which grossed over 500 crores in global box office collections. He will be seen next in an extended cameo in the cricket-based film, Lal Salaam, under her daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth's direction. The veteran actor is also set to begin filming his next grand film, the tentatively titled Thalaivar 170. The upcoming film will be directed by Jai Bhim fame T. J. Gnanavel featuring songs and a background score by 'Rockstar' Anirudh Ravichander. Rajinikanth was also recently announced to be joining hands with blockbuster filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj for Thalaivar 171, which will also include music composed by Anirudh.
