Subramaniapuram is a cult classic film directed by Sasikumar that celebrated the milestone of 15 years of release earlier in July. The film was released in 2008 and introduced many new talents to the film industry, including the filmmaker and actor Sasikumar. The National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, editor in Chief of Galatta Media, did a special interview with the director Sasikumar. He shared many interesting details about the film and what went into making one of the most iconic movies of all time. The filmmaker also shared some insights about his next venture as a director after Subramaniapuram and Eesan.
As the anchor, Baradwaj Rangan, asked in what state of mind he was in at that moment, The director, Sasikumar, said, "Next, I am directing a project, so that is the state of mind I am in." He further stated that he is beginning shooting in September and added that work is happening for that and script is also getting ready. "It will be a film that is new from the beginning. I am learning new things about it, the things that are needed for it. Now, I have taken up the responsibility of directing a film again", he said. When asked if he could share anything about the film. Subramaniapuram director said "I cannot share much about it now, but I am making it as a web series, and shooting will begin in September. It is based on the novel written by Vela Ramamoorthy titled Kuttra Parambarai, ."
The director and Actor Sasikumar then went on to talk about how they shot Subramaniapuram in 16mm and then enlarged it to 35 mm to get a period look with grains in the film. He said Kathir gave that idea to him, and they did a test shoot to know if it would work. Check out the full interview:
