Here are the standard procedures for passengers at different Tamil Nadu airports!
Following an over 60-day nation-wide lockdown, some relaxations were allowed by the Indian government and allowing domestic flight services to resume, are one of the latest! Domestic flights have been allowed to fly from May 23rd and the Tamil Nadu government released a Standard Operating Procedure for all passengers arriving at the domestic airports in the state! However, Tamil Nadu has 4 different airports and each of the districts have made some minor tweaks to the procedures to suit the COVID-19 situation in their region! Tamil Nadu has made an e-pass mandatory for all passengers arriving at the state's airports and all of them would be subject to thermal screening and symptomatic passengers would be sent to a hospital for treatment while asymptomatic passengers would be placed under institutional/home quarantine for 14 days. Here are the procedures being followed at the different Tamil Nadu airports...
The number of daily arrivals and departures have been limited to 40 flights in Chennai. All passengers would be subject to thermal screening and passengers with symptoms would be made to undergo RT-PCR swab test and if they test positive they would be taken to the hospital for treatment while if they test negative, they would be advised home quarantine for 14 days and this remains the same for passengers coming in from other states too. However, all passengers arriving at the Coimbatore airport have to undergo the RT-PCR test mandatorily and they would be placed in paid/free institutional quarantine, based on their choice, till the test results arrive. A positive result would mean the passenger is taken to a hospital for treatment while a negative test allows them to go to their houses and remain in quarantine for 14 days.
The Trichy airport has simpler norms with all passengers being screened thermally and only symptomatic passengers made to undergo the RT-PCR swab test with the results determining whether they are hospitalised or allowed to go to their houses. Asymptomatic passengers will be placed under home quarantine for 14 days!
The Madurai airport also has mandatory thermal screening for all passengers and those flying in from other districts of Tamil Nadu will have to undertake the RT-PCR test if they display any symptoms. If they test positive, they will be moved to a hospital for treatment or allowed to go to their houses and be in home quarantine for 14 days. Asymptomatic passengers would not be tested but will have to undergo home quarantine for 14 days. However, all passengers flying in from other states will have to take the RT-PCR test by default. Passengers from hotspots like Delhi, Maharashtra and Gujarat have to take the tests as well as remain in a paid/free institutional quarantine facility of their choice for 7 days. They will once again be tested after 7 days and if found negative, will be allowed to travel to their houses while testing positive will make them be shifted to a hospital for treatment.
