Blockbuster filmmaker Sudha Kongara hit the bullseye with the Suriya-starrer Soorarai Pottru, which won five awards at the 68th National Film Awards. The 2020 film, which skipped a theatrical release owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, premiered directly on Amazon Prime Video and went on to become a huge success, while also basking in massive critical glory. Sudha Kongara, who is currently working on the Soorarai Pottru Hindi remake with Bollywood Superstar Akshay Kumar, won the 'Inspirational Woman' award at the Suyasakthi Virudhugal held recently and expressed her gratitude at being on such a big stage.
During her speech at the Suyasakthi Virudhugal awards, Sudha Kongara, who accepted the 'Inspirational Woman' award from legendary filmmaker K. S. Ravikumar said, "This is a special stage because when I started to make the film I wanted a technician. He was a famous technician and a leading name, whose name I suggested to the producer. When I went to meet him, he listened to the story and agreed to be a part of my film. And, then he told me not to come up with excuses or reasons about my daughter going to school or how she's not feeling well. He said that if I'm going to miss the shooting for even a single day, he would get irritated. I told him all such things would not happen. In fact, he too wasn't present at the shooting on many days, but I worked. So, I don't need to scream and tell this, but for the first time in my life, I don't have to shout and say these things because everybody here understands what a woman goes through. And, this is what we go through. I am so proud that I am getting an award amidst all these women who fought so many battles, and next to their battles, mine seems very small. I just want more and more women to come to positions of power, and become so powerful that we set the rules and we set the law and we don't have to struggle anymore."
Sudha Kongara was also asked about the various Tamil cinema heroes she would collaborate with and revealed why she would want to work with them. When asked about Ajith Kumar, she said that she would ask him about the kind of script that would interest him for him to give his nod. Regarding casting Silambarasan TR in a film, Sudha Kongara revealed that she would pair him up with Soorarai Pottru heroine Aparna Balamurali as he is completely different from the actress and added that it would be exciting while comparing them both to Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma in the 2009 film, Wake Up Sid. The blockbuster director was also asked about the genre in which she would make a film with 'Thalapathy' Vijay, with the filmmaker revealing it would be a complete action venture as she's his fan and likes him performing action and dance on the big screen. Upon being asked the actor whom she would cast for a biopic on the former President of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Sudha Kongara informed that Suriya would be an apt choice. When asked about Dhanush and the one award she would give him for his talents, she stated that he is fantastic and one of the best actors we have.
