Sudha Kongara recently won the National Award for Best Feature Film and Best Screenplay (shared with Shalini Usha Nair) for the 2020 Tamil film, Soorarai Pottru, starring Suriya and Aparna Balamurali in the lead roles. The film bagged a total of five National Awards, including Best Actor (Suriya), Best Actress (Aparna Balamurali), and Best Music Director - Background Score (G.V. Prakash Kumar), at the 68th National Film Awards in July this year. Sudha Kongara is currently busy with the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru, which will see Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar in Suriya's role, while Radhika Madan is portraying Aparna Balamurali's character and GV Prakash is once again coming out with the tunes and the background score.
As for Sudha Kongara's upcoming projects, the Irudhi Suttru director has been announced to be doing a film for the reputed Kannada production banner, Hombale Films, best known for their KGF franchise, which has been revealed to be based on a true story, with production set to kick off in 2023 after she completes the work on the Soorarai Pottru Hindi remake. Likewise, Suriya had confirmed earlier this year during an interaction with Variety that he and the acclaimed filmmaker will be joining hands for a new film once again soon. There have also been speculations for a while now that Sudha Kongara and actor Silambarasan TR might be teaming up for a venture.
