S. J. Suryah is all set to be seen as the hero once again in the much-awaited Bommai opening in cinemas on June 16. The romantic thriller directed by Radhamohan, who is best known for his breezy feel-good, and emotional dramas like Mozhi (2007) and Abhiyum Naanum (2008), is coming out after quite a long delay considering production had wrapped in early 2020. With Bommai featuring music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja gearing up for a big release this Friday, S. J. Suryah along with the film's team addressed media persons and answered several queries, including one about why the filmmaker-actor hasn't made a sequel to his 2004 blockbuster, New.

Speaking to the press, S. J. Suryah said, "I thought about doing New 2, but there's a problem. In the first film, the hero's life revolves around being an eight-year-old kid during the day, while he transforms and lives the life of a twenty-year-old youth during the night. If I have to make a sequel, that boy was shown to have grown up towards the end of the first film." He added, So, the boy and father will be twenty-year-olds during the day, while the son will be twenty-year-old and the dad will be fifty years old at night. It came down to how to craft the story for the daytime. It'll end up being like the girl loving the son and her father-in-law, which I felt would create a problem and is why I didn't proceed ahead with the story."
S. J. Suryah made his hero debut with New, which saw him share screen space with Simran, while Kiran Rathod, Devayani, Aishwarya, Nassar, the late Manivannan, Karunas, among others, appeared in key roles and featured chart-topping music composed by Academy Award-winner A. R. Rahman. From his entry as a big-screen hero in New, S. J. Suryah will once again be looking to hit the high note with the upcoming Bommai, which also stars Priya Bhavani Shankar as the female lead, while Chandini Tamilarasan is playing a pivotal role.
