Singer Shakthisree Gopalan is on cloud nine after the stunning response to the 'Aga Naga' song in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan. Composed by Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman, a portion of the romantic ballad was first used in the first installment of the epic historical action adventure film released last year and was featured on Karthi and Trisha during a key moment when their characters Vanthiyathevan and Kundavai meet for the first time. With 'Aga Naga' receiving a phenomenal response, Shakthisree Gopalan sat down for an exclusive interview with Galatta to speak about the full song launched recently ahead of Ponniyin Selvan: 2's theatrical release.
When asked about the reactions of Karthi and Trisha after listening to 'Aga Naga', Shakthisree said, "I haven't gotten the chance to speak to them yet. But, at the same time, the full version of the 'Aga Naga' song in Tamil was recorded before the release of Ponniyin Selvan: 1. And, at that time, I didn't know that Rahman sir was going to place a portion of the song as a background score in such an iconic moment. I didn't know it would be used during that amazing moment when Vanthiyathevan would speak such an impactful dialogue." She further revealed a big secret saying, "At the same time, after Rahman sir placed it in the background score, I got the big opportunity to sing in all five languages. I realized that the song would come at such an important moment only when I first watched the film in the theatre and it was exciting to experience that chemistry. It was a great feeling." Shakthisree Gopalan is best known for her songs 'Yaanji' (Vikram Vedha), 'Naan Nee' (Madras), 'Nenjukulle' (Kadal), 'Makkayala Makkayala' (Naan), 'Bhoomi Bhoomi' (Chekka Chivanatha Vaanam) to name a notable few.
