Acclaimed Tamil filmmaker Prabhu Solomon's recent film, Sembi, has been basking in critical glory after releasing in theatres worldwide on December 30 last year. Featuring veteran comedienne Kovai Sarala in one of her career-best performances, the hard-hitting adventure drama film was produced jointly by Trident Arts and AR Entertainment banners and distributed by Red Giant Movies across Tamil Nadu. With Sembi receiving terrific feedback from audiences, the film also starring child artiste Nila, Cooku with Comali fame Ashwin Kumar among others will begin streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from February 3.
Sembi revolves around an elderly tribal woman called Veeraththaai played by Kovai Sarala, who demands justice for her 10-year-old granddaughter Sembi (Nila) after she is assaulted by a gang of pedophiles drunk on power and position. The powerful and gripping drama has been described to be one of Prabhu Solomon's finest films in his career and continues to draw massive appreciation from various quarters. Kovai Sarala has also been showered with immense love for her powerful performance in a one-of-a-kind and never-before-seen role to date. Apart from Kovai Sarala in Sembi being hailed by several critics as outstanding, many are also celebrating 10-year-old child artiste Nila's performance as stellar calling her to be "the soul of this film who conquers the hearts of those who watch it."
Sembi also stars veteran actor Thambi Ramaiah alongside politicians Nanjil Sampath and Pala. Karuppiah, followed by Tamil scholar and orator G. Gnanasambandam, and actress Mullai Arasi in pivotal roles. The film includes a talented technical team featuring the likes of music director Nivas K Prasanna, whose intense background score elevates the visual experience, followed by cinematographer Jeevan's breath-taking visuals and editor Buvan's cuts not hindering the viewer's experience.
