American actor Columbus Short has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence and child endangerment after his arrest earlier this month in a home incident, court documents have revealed. The 39-year-old actor, best known for starring in the hit political thriller television series Scandal, was arrested on February 3, after authorities received a call informing them about "a verbal altercation" between him and his wife Aida Abramyan, PEOPLE has reported. Short told the police that Abramyan had punched him in the face despite no injuries visible at the time. That said, he was taken into custody after they noticed "a minor injury" on Abramyan's face and was issued a felony domestic violence charge. Short's bail was fixed at $50,000 and the actor was later released on the same day, PEOPLE added.
According to USA TODAY, the incident involving Short and Abramyan had allegedly taken place in front of a child. The lawsuit cites that the incident has caused "unjustifiable physical pain and mental suffering" on the child, with child endangerment charges issued against the Scandal actor. The lawsuit has not disclosed the identity of the child. Short is a parent to a son with ex-wife Brandi Short, a daughter with ex-wife Tanee McCall, including two sons with Abramyan.
Short’s personal life has come under the public eye on several occasions in the past when his ex-girlfriend Karrine Steffans and McCall filed temporary restraining orders against the actor for allegedly threatening them in 2016 and 2014. He was also apprehended by the police in 2014 in two separate incidents on charges of felony battery, serious physical injury and public inebriation.
