Born Satyam Babu Dixithulu, Sarath Babu has collaborated with Rajinikanth on several occasions, with his appearances in films like Mullum Malarum (1978), Ninaithale Inikkum (1979), Netrikkan (1981), Velaikaran (1987), Annamalai (1992), and Muthu (1995) earning him immense praise and popularity. Their films, especially Mullum Malarum, Annamalai, and Muthu, went on to become phenomenal box-office blockbusters and continue to be remembered to date as cult classics. Sarath Babu began his career in Telugu cinema in the film Rama Rajyam (1973) and is a nine-time winner of the prestigious Nandi Film Awards for Best Acting in Supporting Roles, which was conferred by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. He also made appearances in Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi language films, with his last major role being the Tamil film, Vasantha Mullai, starring Bobby Simha, which came out earlier this year.
Sarath Babu had been admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad last month where he had been undergoing treatment. "He was brought to AIG Hospitals on 20th April 2023 in critical condition with multiorgan failure because of multiple Myeloma. As an immunocompromised patient, he was under the care of a multidisciplinary team and was supported with a mechanical ventilator for his lungs, and dialysis support for his kidney among other therapies. He succumbed to his illness in spite of the best resuscitative measures. Our sincere condolences are with his family and fans," AIG Hospitals said in a statement. Sarath Babu's body has been taken to the Telugu Film Chamber in Hyderabad today and will be shifted to Chennai tomorrow where his last rites rituals will take place.
