The director of Shaakuntalam, Gunasekhar, Producer Neelima Gunasekhar, actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu and the male lead of the film Dev Mohan sat down for an interview as part of the promotions for the film. Samantha shared while speaking about the three guests present at the interview. The actress said “every one would have known him from Okkadu, one of the greatest directors, Gunasekhar sir. The great director of Shaakuntalam. because, how he narrated the story, How I had imagined it would be, the film has come out just the same. I did not know the work that would go into it. But, by watching them work, the way they work, I got to knew how hard it is to do a film that is focused on VFX. It’s not a simple task. It's not just a sequence that involved VFX, in the 2:20-minute film, 2 hours is full of VFX..." The director then interrupted and asked the actress to speak about the other two people present in the interview.
"Neelima! I think she was the one who said Samantha could do the role in Shaakuntalam. She is the daughter of the director and the producer of the film. So, I don't think sir thought of me, at that time. so, thank you Neelima for making me a part of the film. And, our Dushyanth (played by) Dev. On the first day of shooting I was having a conversation with Gunasekhar sir and many people will be there. In our sets, there will be more girls. So, I saw from the corner of my eyes that the reaction of all the girls were changing. When I turned he was there looking like a complete king exactly like Dushyanth. That was when I (thought) what a perfect casting (he was)", said Samantha. As the anchor asked if the actress only met her co-star on set first, she replied "No, I had met him but it was in casual clothes. First time on set in the look... normally everyone would turn when heroines enter the set but all the girls turned their heads when he entered and I said (to director) 'ok sir, success'”.
