SS Rajamouli’s RRR, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, is said to be the filmmaker’s biggest hits in his career and one of the biggest films of the year. The film went on to break multiple records and also set some new ones on the way. The pan-Indian masterpiece not only made a humongous impact in India but also took over other countries as well. It garnered praises internationally and also from some A-lister Hollywood directors, writers and producers.
However, the film was not chosen as India’s official entry to the 2023 Oscar Awards. But the hope for an Oscar nomination is not lost and is very much alive as the makers are pushing RRR in 14 categories under the ‘FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION' (FYC) campaign. They have submitted the film in all 15 major categories including – Best Picture (D.V.V. Danayya), Best Actor (Jr NTR and Ram Charan), Best Supporting Actress (Alia Bhatt), Best Supporting Actor (Ajay Devgn), Best Director (S. S. Rajamouli), Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Film Editing, Best Original Song (Naatu Naatu), Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Production Design, Best Visual Effects to list a few.

The plot of RRR is set in the 1920s and explores the undocumented period in the lives of Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR) and Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan), two revolutionaries who form an unusual bond with one another and chooser to go into oblivion before they join the fight for an independent India. The film was loved by fans and critics alike and managed to gross over Rs. 1200 crores at the worldwide box office.
The last Indian film that made it to the final five at the Oscars was the Aamir Khan starrer 2001 sports drama film Lagaan. Other than that, Mother India (1958) and Salaam Bombay (1989) are the only other Indian film to have made it to the top five. The 95th Academy Awards is scheduled to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California on 12 March 2023.
