SS Rajamouli's magnum opus RRR which broke several box office records while also set up its own along the way across the world. It had made its way to the news ever since its release on 24 March 2022 and it looks like its has made it way back in the news yet again. There has been a lot of speculation about RRR entering the race for the 95th Academy Awards which will take place on 2023.
The news was already going around sometime back but it ended up picking up steam once again after international magazine Variety featured the film in its list of potential nominees. According to Variety, RRR could be nominated in two categories - best international film and best original song. The song 'Dosti' which was composed by M. M. Keeravani serves as a tribute to the friendship between Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem in the period drama.
RRR is projected as the movie that could bring India its first Oscar nomination in 21 years as the last was the 2001 Aamir Khan starrer Lagaan. Apart from that, only two other Indian films have been nominated for the Oscars which are the 1957 film Mother India and the 1988 film Salaam Bombay!.
RRR is a pan- Indian epic action drama film directed by S. S. Rajamouli and produced by D. V. V. Danayya under the banner of DVV Entertainment. The film stars N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris.
RRR centers on two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR) and their fight against the British Raj. Set in 1920, it explores the undocumented period in their lives when both the revolutionaries chose to go into obscurity before they began the fight for their country. The film went on to become one of the most successful Indian films of 2022 as it minted over Rs. 1,200 crores at the global box office.
