Nayanthara's Mookuthi Amman has opened to a positive response from the Tamil audience and the families are said to be enjoying the film at the comfort of their homes. Mookuthi Amman marks the directorial debut of RJ Balaji along with NJ Saravanan and the duo packed the film neatly with a good mix of fun, drama, sentiment and fantasy. The film was produced by Isari K Ganesh under the banner of Vels Film International and it featured Nayanthara in the titular role. Her elegant makeover as Goddess has become one of the major talking points of the film and this film indeed holds an important place in her filmography.

Mookuthi Amman can be considered to be one of the first successful direct OTT films, alongside Suriya's Soorarai Pottru as both the films have managed to create an impact in their own ways. Having said that, it has now been officially revealed that Mookuthi Amman has created a new record of being the most watched Tamil movie on Disney + Hotstar OTT platform. To celebrate the success of the movie, the streaming giant hosted a virtual success meet where RJ Balaji interacted with some of the fans and answered their questions. During the session, while answering a fan, Balaji revealed that there are plans to make Mookuthi Amman 2 in the next few years. He clarified that he will not make it immediately and give space for the story to develop.

Talking about the sequel plans, RJ Balaji said, “There are a few secrets in the film that are better not to be revealed. Maybe, we will reveal it when we make part 2. These days, people make sequels for movies that don’t even run. Mookuthi Amman has fortunately opened well and has got a good response from the audience, so, why not? We will definitely have a sequel to Mookuthi Amman. I do not know about making part 25 or 26 (laughs), but a second part is very much possible.

After the release of LKG, people asked me if my next is going to be UKG, a sequel to that. I am not interested in doing a sequel immediately. When I get a solid idea that I find it to be more engaging and interesting than Mookuthi Amman, the sequel will happen and it will be made. The idea to make Mookuthi Amman 2 is definitely there,”. This answer from Balaji has indeed made a certain section of fans happy and look forward to the movie. Mookuthi Amman was also praised for its noble message about finding God in one’s own self and not searching for it among other humans.
