Shamshera is an upcoming Hindi film directed by Karan Malhotra of Agneepath (2012) and Brothers (2015) fame and written by Jaideep Sahni. The film is reported to be a period drama and is being produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films. The film is scheduled for a Pan-Indian theatrical release on 22 July 2022 in standard versions, 3D, as well as IMAX 3D. The film will release in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

Now, the official first look of the film has been released and it looks menacing. It features Ranbir's rugged character wearing a long cloak sort of outfit, with really long hair, while holding an axe in his hands. Taking to Twitter, YRF wrote, "Introducing Shamshera – the fierce warrior & the saviour of his tribe. Experience it in @IMAX in Hindi, Tamil & Telugu. Celebrate #Shamshera with #YRF50 only at a theatre near you on 22nd July".

Shamshera features Ranbir Kapoor in the first dual role of his career and Sanjay Dutt. This will be the second collaboration between the two actors as Ranbir has already acted alongside Dutt in Rajkumar Hirani's 2018 biopic Sanju in which he plays the role of Sanjay Dutt himself. Vani Kapoor will also be seen in the film as its female lead.

Talking about the upcoming film, director Karan Malhotra said, "Shamshera is a visual experience that has been designed to treat audiences with a spectacle like never before. We are thrilled to release the film in IMAX, which will deliver the film’s visual extravaganza to audiences across the globe in the most immersive way. Shamshera is an entirely new concept for today’s audience, and, we feel, it is a visual delight given the uniqueness of the subject. When we set out to make this film, we were clear that Shamshera would be best enjoyed on the big screen and in IMAX. So, it’s really heartening to announce this development to cine-goers across the world".
