Raman on Friday
Dr. Biju's Raman, an 80-minute feature film depicting the adverse impact of invasions by imperialist forces on third-world countries like India and Iraq, will be released today (Friday) in three centres across the state: Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Kozhikode.
Raman is the second film by�director Biju, whose first was the Navya Nair-Nedumudi Venu starrer Saira, a touching story about the relationship between a father and his daughter. Notably,�Saira was screened at nearly 21 prestigious international film festivals including Cannes Film Festival, 2007. (Saira was the inaugural film for the Indian section).
Addressing mediapersons at the Ernakulam Press Club on Thursday, Dr. Biju said that Raman tells the story of Raman, a village tea-shop assistant in Kerala and Diya Raman, wife of the U.S. Defence Secretary. Raman highlights how developed nations and globalization creates economical and cultural imbalances in developing and underdeveloped countries.
For the first time in his career, popular comedy actor Anoop Chandran, who shoot to fame with Rasthanthram and Pandhaya Kozhi, dons the lead character in this film. Bollywood actress Avantika Akerkar handles the role of�Diya Raman. The director said that the film also features three foreign actors in pivotal roles. Produced with a budget of Rs. 40 lakh, the film was shot in Kerala and Rajasthan.
