A film that has been carrying massive expectations ever since it was announced, ‘Superstar’ Rajinikanth’s DARBAR being directed by A. R. Murugadoss is coming out as a Pongal 2020 release. Filming has been progressing at a steady pace with the second schedule nearing its finish in the days ahead. With production at present taking place at Mumbai, Bollywood actor Prateik Babbar, who plays one of the antagonists apart from Suniel Shetty, has now announced that he has joined the Darbar shoot amidst an airport backdrop.
There has been plenty of talk surrounding Darbar ever since filming began with A. R. Murugadoss recently teasing fans that there could be a song featuring Rajinikanth pulling off stunts akin to the "Athiradi" song in the blockbuster, Sivaji, in 2007. Billed to be a mass action-packed entertainer, there have been a couple of additions to the film’s cast starting with former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh in a supporting role.
Furthermore, transgender actress Jeeva, who impressed fans with her skills in her debut film, Dharma Durai, alongside Vijay Sethupathi, too has joined Darbar in an important role. National Award-winning filmmaker Seenu Ramasamy took to his Twitter page to announce Jeeva’s inclusion while also congratulating her on landing a part in an esteemed project featuring Rajinikanth. A multi-starrer, Darbar also includes Nayanthara as the female lead along with Nivetha Thomas in a crucial role while Yogi Babu will be providing the comedic relief.
Darbar will see Rajinikanth as a police officer with the actor donning the khakhi after a gap of 28 years since his Pandiyan in 1992. The film will also include Anirudh Ravichander scoring the music, Santhosh Sivan for the cinematography, editing being done by Sreekar Prasad, art direction by T. Santanam and Niharikha Bhasin Khan handling the costume department.
