Many people in the Tamil film industry are today mourning the loss of Indian journalist, educationist and social worker, Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy, 93, known among the common folk as Y. Gee Mahendra’s mother and also as the founder and dean of the P. S. B. B. Group of Institutions. Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy was the wife of playwright Y.Gee. Parthasarathy and was awarded with India's fourth highest civil honor for her contribution to literature and education, the Padma Shri, in 2010. The news of her death has come as a major shock for some in Tamil cinema, who have interacted with her over the years as her student or have been personally inspired by her. Among them are A. R. Rahman who has issued a statement on his Twitter page saying, “We have lost a visionary educator and our ‘Singapen’ of PSBB in Chennai, who went on to change the lives of thousands of young men and women,”.
