Ragupathi Venkaiah Award to Vijaya Nirmala
The Andhra Pradesh government will confer the prestigious Raghupathi Venkaiah Award on Vijaya Nirmala, the prolific woman director and Guinness Book world record holder and wife of Telugu superstar Krishna.
She will receive the award on Ugadi (Telugu New Year Day) at a colourful function to be held at Lalitha Kala Thoranam, Hyderabad, during the presentation of Nandi Awards.
Vijaya Nirmala entered Tollywood in 1957 as a child artiste in the evergreen hit Panduranga Mahatmyam. She made her debut as heroine in the Malayalam film Bhargavi Nilayam. In Telugu, her first film as heroine was with Rangula Ratnam. She made her debut as director with Meena. So far, she had directed more than 50 films in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.
