India, which was once known only for its passion for Cricket and not much for other sports, is fast becoming one of the world leaders in a number of different sports routines! Saina Nehwal has made India proud on a number of occasions with her prowess in Badminton and now the mantle has been passed on to PV Sindhu, who has made it to the finals of the BWF World Championships for a record third time in a row! The third time has indeed proven lucky for the shuttler for she has pulled off an improbable win over a higher ranked opponent in Nozomi Okuhara, that too in straight sets.
Having made it to the finals yesterday, there were high hopes that PV Sindhu should go on to win the tournament and the elusive Gold medal. Today, she has made all the dreams of thousands of Indians come true. An Olympic Silver medal winner, PV Sindhu has now become only the fourth singles Badminton player to have a full set of world championship medals. This win also makes it her fifth medal in a total of just six appearances at the World Championships! PV Sindhu beat Nozomi Okuhara in two straight sets with the scoreline reading 21-7, 21-7!
With this win, PV Sindhu will be heading into the upcoming Tokyo Olympics as the reigning World Champion, in women's Badminton. PV Sindhu was ranked 5th on the world, before she played in today's finals and her ranking could improve, following this majestic win! Kudos to PV Sindhu and a heartfelt thanks for making millions of us Indians, proud! Wishes have been pouring in for Sindhu from all quarters and they sure are well deserved!
